"Juno" actress reveals she is gay

Washington, Feb 15 (EFE).- Canadian actress Ellen Page, best-known for her Oscar-nominated performance as a pregnant teen in the 2007 comedy-drama film "Juno," revealed that she is a lesbian in a heartfelt speech at a conference in Las Vegas.

"I'm here today because I am gay," the 26-year-old told an audience of counselors for LBGTQ youth on Friday.

"To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibity."

The organizer of the Time to Thrive conference, Human Rights Campaign, congratulated Page over social networks for her decision to reveal her sexual orientation publicly.

"I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I'm standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain," Page said in her speech.

The Canadian actress gained fame in 2007 with the blockbuster indie film "Juno" by director Jason Reitman, winner of the Oscar for best original screenplay and also nominated for best picture.

Fans of the actress can soon see her on the big screen in the movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
