Mexico City, Nov 30 (epa-efe) .- Spain's King Felipe VI met here Friday with representatives of the Spanish community in Mexico, where the monarch will attend the inauguration of new President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
The meeting took place at the residence of Spanish Ambassador Juan Lopez-Doriga.
Felipe VI personally greeted the embassy staff and the expats before saying a few words.
Among the attendees were businessman Antonio Basagoiti and prominent Mexican historian Enrique Krauze, who in 2015 obtained Spanish nationality.
Felipe VI's plane landed Thursday night at Mexico City's International Airport, where he was received by Olga Sanchez Cordero, who will hold the powerful post of government secretary in the next Mexican government.
Accompanying the king was Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, who met Friday with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Mexico.
Felipe, then still crown prince, was here six years ago for the inauguration of the outgoing president, Enrique Peña Nieto.
Saturday's ceremony will be the first inauguration of a Latin American leader that Felipe VI attends since he became king in 2014.
