Buenos Aires, Sep 25 (EFE).- Racing Club took over first place in the Superliga Argentina with a 1-0 win over Union at the close of the sixth round of tournament play.
Racing has 16 points following Monday's victory, edging Atletico Tucuman, which held first place, with 14 points, after defeating San Martin de San Juan 3-1 a day earlier.
Racing Club won its fifth straight match, thanks to midfielder Augusto Solari, who scored on a header in the 57th minute.
Union is in 10th place, with nine points, and out of contention for any international competitions.
On Sunday, River Plate shut out rival Boca Juniors 2-0 at La Bombonera Stadium in Buenos Aires in the league's "Super Classic."
Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez scored in the 15th minute and Ignacio Scocco added a goal in the 69th minute for the squad managed by Marcelo Gallardo.
River Plate has dominated the rivalry in recent years, winning 29 consecutive matches.
River Plate also won the Supercopa Argentina in March, defeating Boca Juniors, which is managed by Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Boca Juniors, the two-time defending Superliga Argentina champion, has lost two matches, complicating its chances of winning a third straight championship.
