Superliga Argentina leader Racing Club takes on Lanus in bid to stay on top

Buenos Aires, Sep 13 (EFE).- Racing Club, leader of the Superliga Argentina with 10 points, will visit Lanus this weekend in the fifth round of tournament play.

Racing Club, which plays on the road on Sunday, grabbed the top spot in the standings by defeating Rosario Central, the second-place club in the Superliga, with nine points, in the previous round of play.

The club, managed by Eduardo "Chacho" Coudet, will play a Lanus team that has not won a match, piling up two defeats and two draws.

Racing Club, which was eliminated from both the Copa Argentina and Copa Libertadores, is now focusing entirely on winning the Superliga Argentina title.

The action starts on Friday and will be the last round before the "Superclassic" pitting Boca Juniors against River Plate.

On Saturday, Boca Juniors plays Argentinos Juniors and River Plate takes on San Martin.

Fourth-place Boca Juniors will play Brazil's Cruzeiro next week in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.

Boca Juniors, the two-time defending Superliga Argentina champion, will be on the road against Argentinos Juniors, which is sitting in the middle of the standings.

Striker Ramon "Wanchope" Abila will not be on the field for Boca Juniors due to an injury.

In the next round of Superliga Argentina play, on Sept. 23, Boca Juniors will face River Plate, which is also in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores.
