HBO to air tribute to James Gandolfini

Los Angeles, Dec 19 (EFE).- HBO will honor late actor James Gandolfini with a special featuring clips and reminiscences from his "Sopranos" co-stars and other friends.

The tribute is to air Sunday night.

A score of prominent film and television figures will share their memories of the three-time Emmy winner, who was only 51 when he died of a heart attack in June while vacationing in Italy.

As the star of "The Sopranos," Gandolfini was the face of HBO from 1999-2007 and he maintained a close relationship with the network after the series about a New Jersey mob family completed its run.

Gandolfini produced the drama "Hemingway & Gelhorn" for HBO as well as two documentaries about war veterans, and co-starred with Diane Lane in the network's "Cinema Verite."

At the time of his death, Gandolfini was working on a mini-series, "Criminal Justice." He will be replaced in the role by Robert De Niro.

Gandolfini was hailed by critics for his performance alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the film "Enough Said."
